Join fellow nonprofit leaders and change-makers at the Innovation Summit to gain fresh perspectives on the trends and innovations shaping the future of evaluating nonprofit impact in Washington State.

Session 1

Getting to What Matters: A Fresh Approach to Evaluating Impact

Impact is your value proposition. It is the reason your nonprofit exists. For many leaders, evaluating the true impact of their work is elusive. This session will give you fresh models, insights, and practical techniques to gather data on the significant, transformational impact you have on people's lives. You will discover how evaluation can be generative and liberating for program participants, not just informative for your staff. You will learn lessons from agencies that have developed habits of conducting self-studies on their impact. This session aims to provide you with a fresh approach to evaluating and communicating your impact.

Session 2

Statistics Without Borders

The second session with feature Ralph Winters and Stacy DeRuiter of Statistics Without Borders. Established in 2008, Statistics Without Borders (SWB) is a volunteer outreach group of the American Statistical Association (ASA). SWB arose from the excitement generated by a topic-contributed panel entitled “Statisticians: Speaking Out and Reaching Out on Global Health” at the Joint Statistical Meetings by Steve Pierson, Gary Shapiro, Jim Cochran, and Fritz Scheuren.

SWB provides pro bono statistical and data science services. We work to improve human welfare by providing empirical knowledge using proper applications of statistical principles and best practices so that our clients can make more informed decisions. We focus on areas where access to such resources is limited.

About the Speakers

Steven Patty, Ph.D.

Steve Patty, Ph.D., spent sixteen years as a professor and administrator in higher education before stepping out of the university context to work with organizations in the nonprofit and public sectors.  For the past two decades, he has been developing the capacity of agencies that work with people to design strategy, develop people, and evaluate impact.  He has taught thousands of leaders throughout North America and internationally how to design and implement a kind of evaluation that gets below the surface and into the heart of human change and transformation. He has also been facilitating leadership development cohorts for public and nonprofit leaders in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Steve lives in Portland, Oregon.
